THIRD GRADE
Grade: 3
Theme/Topic: Prophets and Prophecy
Synthesis Project: Journal – What would the Prophets Want Me to Remember?
Special Events: Junior Congregation will meet: Saturday, December 8, 2007; Saturday, February 23, 2008; and Friday, April 11, 2008.
Our third graders study the exciting and dramatic stories of the prophets. Prophets comfort the people when they are troubled; and trouble the people when they are comfortable. Prophets helped some leaders become kings and helped some kings rule the nation. Many prophets were teachers.
The stories of the Biblical Prophets teach us Jewish values – what Jews have always believed and what Jewish values guide our lives now. The lives of the Biblical Prophets give us examples of how to and how not to behave. Some prophets got very tired of doing the right thing. Some prophets became more like performance artists – doing something big so everyone would think more about their teachings.
Students will learn about many prophets, including: Amos, Devorah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Moses, Miriam,
Questions Our Students Might Ask:
Who were the prophets?
Why should I read the Books of the Prophets?
Why did so many prophets have to fight?
What do the prophets’ stories have to do with me?
Why aren’t there any prophets now?
