Dear Parents,

I would like to start this note by letting you all know how wonderful your children are!  I have had great fun getting to know them over the past three weeks and look forward to teaching them each Sunday.

This past week we continued our study about becoming bar/bat mitzvah and had a visit from Rabbi Folberg who answered all of the student’s questions.  Conveniently, this coming Saturday, October 20th, Sara Weiss (sister of Ariana Weiss who is a member of our class) will be becoming bat mitzvah in our very own sanctuary.  Services begin at 10:30 and I strongly recommend that you take this opportunity for a family field trip!  Your child could not only visualize what we have been learning in class but sharing in this wonderful life cycle event would also put the Hebrew that your son or daughter is learning into context.

This coming Sunday, October 21st, we will be studying consecration: the ceremony where we celebrate the beginning of our children’s Jewish education.  If you have some photos from when your son or daughter was consecrated please send them to class so that we can share the fun memories that they may have of this sweet simchah.  Rabbi Folberg will return once again to answer all of our questions relating to this life cycle event.  Another family field trip opportunity will present itself on Saturday, October 27th when our first graders are consecrated at 9:30 a.m. in our sanctuary.  The service will only be 45 min. long and, of course, it would bring what we learn in class to life not just for our students but for their parents as well!

Many thanks for the snacks that have been provided so far and for the communications that I have received from you regarding absences, etc.  Please know that I am always available should you have questions or concerns.

B’shalom,
Sarah Avner
