Shalom, CBI Sunday School Community.  I am sending this message in response to concerns of individual parents, the Youth Education Committee (BJE), and the CBI Board of Directors.  Please read the full text carefully.  Toddah – Thank you.

Parents deliver their students to CBI for classes for two different morning slots on Sundays – 9am-11am and 11:30am-1:30pm.   Students in grades prekindergarten through 2 enroll in one class for one session.  Most students in grades 3 through 6 enroll in one Judaica class and one Hebrew class.

In order to participate in classes, we expect all families to have…

  1. Filed a complete, up-to-date, signed Emergency Form for each student in the Education Office
  2. Enrolled in appropriate classes – for example, students attend the sessions officially enrolled, attend the classes officially enrolled.

For students who are enrolled in classes at both sessions, 9am-11am and 11:30am-1:30pm, historically and presently, there is no supervised lunch or break.  While we work on curriculum, budget, and other important foundations of the school programs, we would appreciate your feedback about how we can better our security on campus next semester and next year.

Until then, CBI requests the following:

  1. We expect students to participate in all class activities with respect and mindfulness.
  2. We expect students to use their best judgment at all times.
  3. Between 11am and 11:30am, we would like 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to remain in visual contact with responsible adults – either on the 2nd floor, in classrooms with teachers, or with their parents/guardians.
  4. Adults, You Know Your Family’s Limits Best.  If your child needs some extra supervision because of a particularly tough week or a tough semester, please plan on being at CBI to provide that extra supervision before and after classes.
  5.   Adults, please sign up to volunteer to help supervise the playgrounds, the exits, and the common areas.  You may come sign up in the Education Office during office hours or program hours.  Volunteer Supervising requires only your adult presence, your alert watchfulness, your ability to call for help – if necessary, just in case.

Toddah Rabbah - Thank you very much.

Choir:  In between classes, 11am-11:30am, there is only one scheduled activity.  Between 11am and 11:30am, students may participate in the choir with the Cantor in Room 201, the Music Room on the 2nd floor.  To sign up for Choir, contact the Cantor in the Clergy Suite by telephone at 512.454.6806, x214 or by email.

Madrichim:

All of us - Jessica, all the teachers, students, parents, and I - really appreciate your cheerful hard work each Sunday.

Teaching Assistants are expected to be in their assigned classrooms from 15 minutes before class begins until 15 minutes after class ends.

15 Minutes Before - We need your early attendance to help teachers prepare for classes and to help supervise students in the rooms.  Sometimes, you may be asked to watch the classroom while a teacher takes a bathroom break, for example.

15 Minutes After - After class ends, we need your presence to help us supervise students until they are picked up and to help wrap up any classroom activities.

“Closed Campus” – Your teachers and your co-workers cannot be responsible for your safety “off campus.”  As a result, we expect you to remain at CBI – even if you have 15 minutes in between your classes.  We expect you to use your best judgment.  We also expect you to communicate honestly with us – your employers – as well as your parents/guardians about where you are going to be on Sunday mornings when programs are in session.

Toddah - Thank you.
