Kindergarten Preview & Review

Dear CBI Kindergarten Families,
        The Preview…
Kindergarten is rolling up our sleeves.  Please read on to find out when we need volunteers, when we need you to bring extras, and what’s coming home.  Also, please make sure to send your kindergarteners to class in clothes that can get a little messy.
On November 18, we will learn more about tzedakah – righteous giving.  We will make our own tzedakah boxes.  We really need some parent volunteers to help us cut holes into the tops of our tzedakah boxes.  If you are good with an exacto knife (or are willing to learn), we would love your help in the classroom at the beginning of each session.
Coming Up in December:
On December 2nd, we will be building our own menorahs/hannukiyot.  Rabbi Lippe bought us wooden pieces and special glue and paint.  We would like to request some parent volunteers to help us set up, glue, paint, and clean up.  We will also be learning the recipe for edible dreidels.  Thanks to Rabbi Lippe for all the dreidel ingredients.  For the next Sunday - Please sign up to bring cookie dough, cookie sheets, tinfoil, and sprinkles.  You can sign up in our classroom.
On December 9th, we will be baking Hannukah cookies.  We would like to request some volunteer (adult) chefs to help in the kitchen.
On December 16th, we will be reviewing our whole semester of learning – from Rosh HaShanah – the Birthday of the Year – all the way through Hannukah and Tu B’Shvat – the Birthday of the Trees.

The Review:
We have had a busy year so far.  The first week, we visited the sukkah, shook the lulav & etrog, & made edible sukkot.  The kids loved it!  We just finished a three week unit on Shabbat.  We made Shabbat candleholders & kiddush cups.  And on October 14th, we made our own challah.  The children were very excited!  Thank you to all of the parents who brought dough and stayed to help with the braiding and baking.  October 28th we had some special visitors.  Rabbi Folberg visited the 9am class and Rabbi Sternman visited the 11:30 class.  Both will talk about and show us the Torah.  We will also make edible Torahs.  It will be a fun morning!  On November 4th we talked about the Aron HaKodesh – the Ark in the Sanctuary, where the Torah scrolls are kept.
The children are enjoying bringing home Shabbat Bear.  Thank you for returning it the next week so that other children can have turns.
I’d like to introduce our madrichot (teachers’ assistants).  In the 9am class, Lauren Klein and Rachel Quay help us.  Hannah Zeevi helps our 11:30 class.  We are lucky to have these young women working with us.
Have a very warm, happy Thanksgiving with your families.
