Cantor David Reinwald
Cantor David Reinwald is a native of Chicago who holds a Bachelors in Music and Jewish Studies from Indiana University - Bloomington and was invested as a cantor by the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City in May, 2006. During his entire four years of cantorial training in NYC, he served as Student Cantor of Temple Beth-El of Jersey City, NJ. Cantor Reinwald also spent a summer training and working as a hospital chaplain at Beth Israel Hospital in NYC's East Village. From that experience, he developed a strong passion to unite music with pastoral care to enrich the lives of those most in need.
Cantor Reinwald considers himself a music aficionado and loves music of all shapes and sizes. He is inspired by Jewish and Cantorial music that is both classic and contemporary, and also has a specialization in music written and performed during the Holocaust. Out of his masters thesis research, Cantor Reinwald created an hour long transformative experience and performance entitled Cabaret of the Holocaust: Notes of Satire from the Stages, Cafes, and Streets of the Ghettos. He is incredibly proud of this work and hopes to continue to perform it for years to come.
Cantor Reinwald feels that music is a universal language through which anyone can find the ways and means to connect with both the music and with one another. It is for this reason that he is incredibly enthused to be living and working in Austin, where music is the main river running through the city.
